Pull My Strings for Cotton On

Collaboration with Cotton On  X  Students from the Gordon

Cotton On develops their styles on a Spice Girl theory; Savvy, Classic/Girl Next Door, Traveller/Bohemian, Rock Chic, and Sassy. Each Girl, is fashion aware but not necessarily fashion savvy. She wants to be a part of the crowd, is body conscious and has limited income so wants value for money. As well as the 5 style icons, each season has multiple themes.

Together we produced a range designed for the Classic Girl with an Indie Folk theme.

STYLE ICON: Miranda Kerr – Classic | Girl Next Door. A girl that puts her look together with a sense of femininty whilst with a degree of functionality and consistency in her look. She is a moderate adopter of the trend. She tends to purchase ‘like’ items she knows and trusts. Colour Palette: solid colours, classic neutrals, clean and crisp. Tan is her colour of choice in accessories, as Tan has an inferred luxury and is incredibly classic. Key Items: tailored shorts, feminine details, plain layering pieces, ballet flats, clutches, dresses, blazers.

THEME: Indie Folk | 1970’s, bohemian, carefree, sense of self, unique and individual, collars, saddle shoulders, button aps, deep pockets, raglan sleeves.

Blending the two.

– Toning down the indie theme, keeping to classic silhouettes.

– Playing up the shirts (with an indie vibe) in the collars and placket.

– Simple styling to refect the classic girl.

– Using Denim as a nod to the 70’s.

– Using colours that fitted more of an indie vibe. Inspired by the heavy play of yellows and browns within the furniture and advertising of the 70’s.

– Photoshoot embraces the distinctive hazy filters found in the photographs of the 1970’s.
